Jen and Gerry

Saturday September 7, 2013

I have often told my family and friends how much I love living in Oakbank, but what I love just as much... is photographing a wedding out here.  There is nothing like the the majestic nature of Bird's Hill Park as a painted backdrop for wedding photos.
It was a bright and sunny morning as my assistant, Darlene, and I drove out to meet Jen at her parents home just outside of Lorette.  The house was filled with girls getting ready, the sounds of laughter filled the air as Jen sat perfect in her make up chair getting her last minute touch ups done.
Jen had chosen beautiful jewellery to wear.  Each piece sparkled in the sun as her mom helped her put it on.
Jen looked simply stunning in her wedding gown.  I loved the one shoulder detailing and the tiny embellishments that added the unique touch to her dress.

Just after lunch, we arrived  at Jen and Gerry's home to photograph someone very special who was unable to attend the wedding...their adorable dog, Monty.  Monty greeted us with a smile as he peered  through the window watching us walk up the driveway.  He is quite the lady's man!  He was so excited to have his photo taken with this bunch of gorgeous gals but he was especially thrilled to see Jen.  Monty couldn't resist kissing the bride! (A few times)
Jen and Gerry were married at the timeless location of Pineridge Hollow amongst their family and friends.  Their ceremony was under a vibrant blue sky and the flowers in the gardens looked gorgeous.  The couple chose to do a "Rose Ceremony." There are 4 roses, one rose is to be presented to their mother and one to be given to each other.  It was a very special moment for each of them.

After the ceremony we headed to Birds Hill Park with the wedding party for our formal photos.  I have met a few of the attendants in passed wedding parties and I still can't stop laughing when we get together.  I'd like to thank you all for adding your charismatic charm to each photograph.  You know who you are...it is always so much fun for us when we get to capture more of the Oakbank Clan!  You are truly a crazy bunch but we love every moment.

I have known Gerry since I was a little kid.  Our paths often crossed when our parents would be invited to the same events and I have always remembered him as "that guy who drove the snowmobile."  Gerry and his family are such a wonderful group of people which made photographing his wedding such a highlight for me on a personal level.  I am so thankful for all of the kind words that they have given me throughout my career and trusting me to capture their wedding moments.
I would like to thank Jen and Gerry for being such a fabulous couple to photograph.  Besides the fact that you make a GORGEOUS pair, you both have such a great friendship and genuine admiration for each other.  It was such a pleasure to spend my day with you.

Thank you for sitting in the grass, trekking through the dirt (and who knows what) at the horse jumps, but for also allowing me the time I needed to create my own sunset.  I had a wonderful day and I wish you both many years of happiness as you venture onto the next chapter of your incredible journey.

The reception was held at Pineridge Hollow and was decorated with pieces inspired and created by the couple themselves.  It looked amazing.
Jen and Gerry celebrated their wedding with a fun-filled evening of dancing, dinner, and more dancing.  The guests had so much fun that a conga line of over 25 people was created to get the couple to kiss. Another wonderful evening out in Oakbank!
Congratulations!

Jodi and Kevyn

Saturday August 24, 2013

"Today I married my True Love" was the theme of this beautiful day.  I was very excited about photographing Jodi and Kevyn's wedding today, along with my assistant, Jill.  I had met with Jodi a few times during the last few months as we discussed her vision for having a vintage-inspired wedding.  Her ideas were fabulous from flowers, decorations, centrepieces, and my most favourite vintage item...the men's fedora hat.  It reminds me of my own grandfather, I love this classic look!
We met Kevyn and his groomsmen, along with Jodi's son, Brady at the Old Market Square in the heart of the exchange district at 11:30am.  It was a hot and humid day.  I could feel the heat coming from the pavement as we approached the park. We were definitely going to be looking for a shady place today.  Jodi arrived moments later looking gorgeous in her A-lined designed wedding gown.  It was here that the couple shared their "first look" along with Brady.  A wonderful family moment.

Jodi's look was perfect.  From the vintage jewellery, the dress, and her hairstyle...truly beautiful.  Jodi has such a fun and charismatic personality that she was such a joy to photograph.

We stayed in the exchange for a short time to photograph the wedding party before heading to the ceremony site, the Saint Norbert Monastery.

Brady looking handsome in his own Fedora, it was hard to get him to stop smiling.  What an awesome kid!
A huge THANK YOU to the wedding party!  I know it was hot...but you were all so much fun to work with.  I loved the humour and candid moments that you brought to the day.  We had a great time!

We arrived at the monastery shortly after 1:00pm where we finished up with bridal party photos.  I love  photographing at the monastery as the lighting is so romantic.  I was especially thrilled to bring my own vintage bike for the session.  Thank you Jodi and Kevyn for letting me "play".  The bike is so heavy but it was definitely worth it to bring it out.
Jodi and Kevyn were married amongst family and friends under the shady trees at the foot of the monastery grounds.  It was a great ceremony filled with laughs, a few tears of joy, and Kevyn immediately updating his status on Facebook to MARRIED!  A fun moment by all.

The reception venue was held at the Lyncrest Airport where we were spoiled by local members Burt and Adrian who let us photograph their own personal vintage planes.  This was an amazing moment for myself but also to Kevyn who looked like a little kid.  He was so excited!  It was AWESOME!

Thank you Jodi and Kevyn for inviting me to capture this wonderful day.  I had so much fun and it was a joy to work with you both and to meet your family and friends.  I wish you many years of happiness and I am so happy to know that you found your true love and married your best friend!

Congratulations!
